The project required slicing a poppy-seed-sized brain into 7,050 layers and taking 21 million photographs. The resulting map captured 139,255 neurons and over 50 million connections between them.

That timeline raises an intriguing possibility. The first person to achieve digital immortality may not yet be born. But they might be born within our lifetime.
