Neutron Stars and Quark Stars

Neutron stars are the remnants of supernova explosions. They are so dense that protons and electrons combine to form neutrons. In the quark star hypothesis, if the density increases further, neutrons could break down into their constituent quarks, forming a new state of matter.

Characteristics of Quark Stars

Quark stars would be incredibly dense and small, with a radius of about 10 kilometers. Their surface might be composed of strange quark matter, a stable form of quark matter containing strange quarks in addition to up and down quarks.
